Toad Venom Is Coming. No, It's Not Detroit Runtz.

If you've been following the cannabis world at all for the last year and a half, you've heard about the Toad / Frog and Detroit Runtz drama. Toad Venom, also known as Frog Poison, and originally named Becky, has been the most talked-about strain of 2025 and 2026.  With legacy-market prices that are reportedly absurd, Hytek’s version is now landing on shelves in Mid October.

Let's clear up the biggest confusion around this strain: Toad Venom does not have Detroit Runtz in its genetic makeup.

Where the Frog Poison and Detroit Runtz mix-up started

The Detroit Runtz mixup runs back to a dispute between Ronin Seeds / West Coast Connoisseurs and Green Dragon about who had the right to distribute the Toad Venom.  During that fight, the first clones sent out under the Toad Venom name were accidentally cut from the wrong plant and turned out to be Detroit Runtz.  Those cuts were grown, flowered, and even pressed into rosin as "Toad Venom" before there were questions. According to NuggNotes, the switch was deliberate, and with the Toad Venom name and the wrong genetics in the midst of an argument, a lot of people believe it.

The true lineage of the Toad Venom

The real deal Toad Venom is a cross between Animal Face (seedjusnky) and Sin Mintz (SinCity Seeds). Animal Face brings the gas and the Sin Mintz side, which roots back to a Sin Mint Cookie x Zkittlez cross, adds the sweet, candy side.   The seeds came out of Ronin Seeds / West Coast Connoisseurs, and Green Dragon hunted those seeds and picked the keeper pheno Becky, that is known as the Toad that everyone is chasing.

What’s in the jar?

Expect cookie, candy, gas, and a little bit of lemon-lime.  From a cultivar known for being a strong, resin-heavy strain, this one really packs a punch!!  If what you've tried before didn't match that profile, there's a decent chance you got the Detroit Runtz.

Watch for the drop. The frog is coming!!!
